Lloyd Street School, is a Government School which enjoys a positive reputation as a school which places great emphasis on catering to the individual learning needs of each student and building positive and productive relationships with the parent body. The current enrolment is 505 students, who generally reside in the local neighbourhood. All students enjoy access to a highly engaging programme of inquiry, planned within the International Baccalaureate, Primary Years Programme, curriculum framework. In the key learning areas of Mathematics and English, the provision of a differentiated curriculum ensures that students have access to ‘point of need learning,’ aimed at ensuring both success and challenge for all students.
A variety of specialist programmes form an integral part of the learning programme, with students having access to instruction in the following single subject areas: Physical Education, Indonesian, Visual Art, Performing Arts, Philosophy and ICT. There is an extensive music programme which includes various ensemble groups, choirs and a rock band. Instrumental music and singing programmes are on offer from a range of external providers. There is also a broad range of extra-curricula opportunities on offer.

We acknowledge that under the Lloyd Street School buildings and grounds this land is, was and always will be traditional Aboriginal land.
Lloyd Street is very well resourced in relation to digital learning tools. The ICT lab has 18 touch screen desktop computers which are used for explicit instruction in relation, to using ICTs efficiently and responsibly.
All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and a combination of desktop and laptop computers which are readily utilised as learning tools. In Level 4 all students have their own laptops which are used extensively for collaborative work and to support student learning across all curriculum areas.
The school operates within a very safe digital environment and educating students about the safe use of digital technologies is a critical component of the curriculum program.
Foundation is an exciting year for our students, who grow and develop greatly throughout the year. Students who are five by the 30th of April are eligible to enrol in Foundation at all Government Schools.
To support the transition to Primary School, Lloyd Street offers a comprehensive Transition Program during October and November of the previous year. The program provides opportunities for our new students to work with their teachers and peers in their classrooms, as well as sampling the Specialist Teaching Programs and the playground.
Comprehensive communication with both parents and Kindergarten teaching staff ensures that the school is prepared to meet the needs of all enrolments.
The Foundation Discovery Centre is a much enjoyed feature of our students’ first year of school. The Discovery Centre is ever evolving and complements the classroom inquiry program, by provoking the students’ curiosity and natural wonderings.
The Discovery Centre enables an opportunity for structured play based learning, which promotes creativity, communication and social skill development. The Foundation students have exclusive access to the Discovery Centre and spend time there each week.
The Administration Team is highly responsive to the needs of the school and broader community. They are able to direct all inquiries to the appropriate personnel, including the Uniform Shop.

Lloyd Street has a very welcoming library which houses an extensive collection of popular fiction texts. The large variety of both picture storybooks and novels are added to annually and books are selected based on student interests. Students regularly borrow books from the library as part of the learning program and during their lunch breaks. The library is open to students every lunchtime.
The Library Resource Centre also offers a broad range of non-fiction contemporary learning materials which complement the Programme of Inauiry.
During their weekly Visual Art lessons students explore a range of materials and techniques to create visual artworks which represent their ideas, experiences and imagination. Students also respond to and consider a range of visual artworks.
The Visual Art program complements the PYP Program of Inquiry – further exploring lines of inquiry or key concepts.
The Art room is regularly open at lunch times for students who wish to pursue their own projects.
Lloyd Street School provides literacy support for students who are identified as needing some additional explicit instruction. The Literacy Support Teacher works intensively with individual or small groups of students to consolidate their foundational literacy skills.
The Lloyd Street School Gymnasium is utilised extensively for Physical Education classes, weekly assemblies, musical performances and social gatherings. The facility comfortably accommodates the whole school community for special events. Community groups and clubs also access the facility out of hours.
The senior school is very fortunate to be accommodated in purpose built portable classrooms which are climate controlled and have acoustic systems. Lloyd Street retains the majority of students through to the completion of their primary schooling and ensures that leadership development is prioritised for the students. A highlight of the senior years is the camp program which includes a camp to Camp Coonawarra and Canberra.
Teamkids operates the Out of School Hours Program at Lloyd Street in the Gymnasium Multi-Purpose space. This very pleasant environment enables a wide range of activities to be provided within the facility. Before Care commences at 7.30 am and After Care concludes at 6.00pm. Teamkids also offers a highly engaging School Holiday Program onsite at Lloyd Street.
Lloyd Street School Community actively supports the ongoing development of the school grounds. The playground includes a large area of artificial turf, three areas of playground equipment and a number of areas for quiet play. These zones include large sandpits, a Foundation student’s deck and picnic tables for older students to gather at.
Lloyd Street has a comprehensive Performing Arts Program which includes the classroom Music Program, as well as a range of choirs, ensembles and a rock band. Every second year all students are involved in a major concert production. There is also many opportunities for students to perform at assemblies and community events. The school based Music Program is supported by an extensive instrumental music program provided by external entities. A singing teacher also provides private lessons through our school.

Teachers at Lloyd Street School work very hard to identify, respond to and meet the learning needs of all students. Teaching teams work closely together in monitoring student progress and differentiating the curriculum so that students are both challenged and supported in their learning, across all areas of the curriculum.
Teachers respond to the learning needs of their students by differentiating what the students learn, how they might go about learning it, and what they produce as a result of their learning.
In differentiating the curriculum, teachers consider a student’s readiness, interests and capabilities. As a consequence students often work in a variety of small groups with children of similar needs or interests.
The teaching team at Lloyd Street plan all aspects of the curriculum together to ensure high levels of consistency and continuity across the school. Collaborative planning and the sharing of knowledge and expertise supports the ongoing professional learning and performance of all our teachers.
